According to a report on Twitter last night by Brian Bilek of FutureSox.com, the Houston Astros are to sign Edwin Encarnacion today. Many other reports state that Encarnacion is expected to sign soon.
After the Astros missed out on free-agent outfielder, Yoenis Cespedes, it was clear that they would turn their focus to power hitter Edwin Encarnacion. In the past 24 hours, it had been reported that the Boston Red Sox ‘probably’ wouldn’t sign the power hitter and that the Blue Jays were ‘showing most love’ to Encarnacion. His agent, Paul Kinzer, also told a reporter that Encarnacion would likely sign this week or early next week.
In 160 games with the Toronto Blue Jays last season, Encarncion held a .263 batting average with 158 hits, 42 home runs and drove in 127 runs. Take a look at Encarnacion’s career stats below, provided by Baseball-Reference.com.
