In the biggest no-brainer of the offseason, the Texas Rangers have decided to pick up the $5.25 million club option of star catcher Jonathan Lucroy for the 2017 season.
The Rangers acquired Lucroy at the trade deadline for a hefty price after he vetoed a trade to the American League Champion Cleveland Indians. Lucroy was a steal for the Rangers, as he was the cheapest and best option available at Texas’ biggest position of need, catcher. Lucroy, one of the best at his position, is set to make $5.25 million next season.
In 47 games with the Rangers, Lucroy hit to an average of .276 with 11 HR’s and 31 RBI’s. In total in 2016, the two time All-Star catcher hit .292 with 24 HR’s and 81 RBI’s.
