Sources in the Dominican Republic are reporting that eight minor league prospects at the Texas Rangers Dominican complex have been questioned regarding an alleged sexual assault of an underage teammate
The alleged incident is reportedly linked to a short video that was posted on Snapchat of a group of Rangers prospects holding a new teammate down and masturbating him while laughing. Prosecutors in the Dominican Republic have said that they intend to press charges against four players, including the younger brother of Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor, also named Rougned Odor, as well as highly regarded catching prospect Yohel Pozo.
This is one of a series of alleged hazing incidents of new South American prospects, several of whom are reportedly younger than 18. The Rangers organization immediately reported the alleged hazing after being informed of it by another player not involved in the incidents.
Major League Baseball has declined to comment on the reports, though they have placed the four prospects facing charges on administrative leave.
In a statement released to Yahoo Sports, the Rangers said: “The Texas Rangers became aware of an incident at our Academy in the Dominican Republic and we acted promptly to open an investigation. We have reported the incident and are cooperating fully with Major League Baseball and the authorities in the Dominican Republic. With this being an ongoing investigation, we will have no further comment at this time.”
The Rangers Dominican complex is regarded as one of the most successful in Latin America, and many of the Rangers' current and former Latin American stars were products of the complex.
