Many people will remember Wednesday night’s Mets vs Braves game due to the fact that it was the return of Bartolo Colon to Citi Field.
However, one young fan will remember this game for the rest of his life for a much different reason.
Pregame during batting practice, New York Mets reliever Jerry Blevins spotted a young fan standing by the bullpen wall. Blevins turned and as some players like to do, started a game of catch with the young kid. Video can be seen at this link: https://www.instagram.com/p/BSh20idjyBu/?taken-by=bwoodbeagles
The “extra practice” actually paid off for Blevins. In the seventh inning, he came in with the bases loaded in a tie ball game. Blevins struck out pinch hitter Emilio Bonifacio and then induced an Ender Inciarte ground out to get the Mets out of the inning, limiting the damage.
The little moments like this moment between Blevins and this young fan are what make the sport of baseball so amazing. This is certainly a moment this young fan will never forget. To go along with that, Jerry Blevins has gained another young fan for life. This is why I love the sport of baseball. Jerry Blevins, you are the man.
