The Toronto Blue Jays have a 2-0 lead in the ALDS against the Texas Rangers and are set to return home for a potential series clinching Game 3 on Sunday. The Jays will be looking to clinch with a huge role to fill in their bullpen.
In the bottom of the eighth of Friday’s game, Jays pitcher Francisco Liriano was pitching to Carlos Gomez. Gomez lined a Liriano offering right back at him, and hit him in the head with a line drive. The ball deflected off the side of Liriano’s head and caromed into the outfield.

After being checked out by the trainers, Liriano was able to walk off the field under his own power. According to USA Today’s Jorge L. Ortiz, Liriano was taken to an ambulance on a stretcher while wearing a neck brace. We have since learned he has been cleared to fly back to Toronto with the team after exams.
Liriano pitched to four batters Friday and recorded only one out. He gave up two runs on two hits and one walk. Losing Liriano puts a huge hole in the Toronto bullpen. Toronto can only hope Aaron Sanchez, J.A. Happ, Marco Estrada, and Marcus Stroman can continue to hold down the fort after back to back strong starts.
