In this world nothing can be said to be certain for Dodgers fans, except death, taxes, and frustration with Scott Van Slyke. This season, Dodgers outfielder and first baseman Scott Van Slyke has been met with harsh criticism from just about every angle. In 44 plate appearances this season, Van Slyke has struck out 13 times (a K% of 29.5), and hosts a measly slash line of .132/.250/.316. With a performance like this, it’s no wonder Dodgers fans all across social media are demanding he be optioned to Triple-A.
On May 2nd, Van Slyke was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City due to his hitting woes. However, he was recalled only a week later after outfielder Andrew Toles suffered a season-ending ACL injury. During his brief absence from the majors, the Dodgers won 6 of their 7 games before he was recalled. Since his return, he has appeared in 7 games—6 of which he appeared as a pinch hitter or substitute—and has only 1 hit in 7 at-bats. It is quite clear that just about everything possible that could go wrong has for Van Slyke, and nothing seems to hint that a positive change is coming.
Luckily for Dodgers fans, Adrian Gonzalez and Logan Forsythe are set to return from the DL very soon, which would most likely mean Van Slyke will be optioned back to Triple-A. But until Gonzalez and Forsythe return, Dodgers fans everywhere will just have to sit patiently and suffer through almost every one of Scott Van Slyke’s at-bats.
